This is a fun and interactive rope toy made from 100% coconut husk fiber, while the wood chew in the center is 100% non-toxic coffee tree – same as our Original Mumbies Chew. This is best for moderate chewers as the rope is soft and the chews will be a little less dense than the Original Chew.

Sizing/Specifications

For aggressive chewers, go a size up. Refer to our Original Chew sizing to get a sense of the diameter of the chew. These will be close to that sizing. Being smaller and combined with the rope, they will be less dense than our Original Chew.

This product is made from 100% natural coffee tree wood and coconut husk rope sourced from independent farms in Vietnam.

Safety Instructions

Only allow chewing under direct supervision. Not suitable for dogs under 6 months. Regularly inspect for signs of breaking, loose pieces, or wear and replace when necessary for your dog's safety. While it’s generally safe if small fibers of the wood pulp are ingested, this product is not meant for internal consumption. Watch your dog closely and discourage them from swallowing any pieces of this chew. The dog’s saliva naturally softens the wood. If the ends get brittle from chewing, you can wet the chew between sessions to make it a little more gentle for your pal.

Coffee is one of the most widely traded commodity crops in the world. Since younger coffee trees produce the most beans, older trees are cut down and replanted as their bean production decreases. This natural part of the process provides a surplus of — drumroll, please — coffee wood.

The wood is absolutely ideal for creating safe, non-toxic, all-natural dog chews! We’ve partnered with small, independent coffee farmers in Vietnam who both practice ethical and sustainable production to bring Mumbies chews to you.

When will my order ship?

We usually ship within 1-2 business days of your order being placed unless the item is on backorder/pre-order. You'll receive an email once your order has shipped. You are able to adjust your shipping information if necessary only prior to shipment. Orders can be canceled and refunded anytime before it ships.

What size of chew is right for my dog?

Whether you are looking at our Classic Chews, you can find our recommended size chart here. Always size up if your dog is a heavy chewer. The goal is to have your pup open their mouth a bit wider to gnaw on the ends. The Root Chews tend to be a little tougher, and may be worth considering for your pup.

How long will Mumbies chews last?

It varies. Mumbies chews can last anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two, depending on the size of your dog, chewing behavior, and how often they get their Mumbies. A moderate chewer could go through 1-2 a month with an average chew time of 15-20 minutes. We recommend storing them inside outside of the elements to preserve the life of your chew toys.

Are these safe?

Mumbies chews are to be treated like a toy and not something they consume. These are not suitable for dogs under 6 months. We 100% do not recommend any dog ingesting these chews. These chews are not always right for every dogs.

The ones who purchase these chews, their dogs are already big chewers, usually on sticks, and are not attempting to ingest. That being said, if they accidentally ingest tiny bits and pieces, they pass through the digestion. Do not leave a dog unattended with this or any other chew.

You will want to test it out and see how your dog does with them and use your best judgment if they are the right fit for your pup.

Is there any caffeine?

No! The coffee tree wood itself does not contain any caffeine whatsoever, only the fruit and beans. So there’s no risk of your dog consuming caffeine.

Do the chews splinter?

Coffee tree wood resists cracking and splintering far better than other woods. The fibrous structure of it means it breaks apart into strands far more easily than shards, making splinters near-nonexistent. As it softens with the dog’s saliva, it frays off the ends in tiny pulp-like fibers. As this is wood, some flaking may happen at the beginning when the bark comes off. While any wood carries a small risk of splinters, coffee tree wood is one of the safest wood chews you can give to your dog. Of course, we don’t recommend allowing your dog to swallow any of the pieces or ever leaving a dog unsupervised with any chew toy, so please always use caution.

Where are your products made?

The coffee tree wood and the coconut husk used in our products is grown and sourced from independent farms in Vietnam. Any of treats are made and sourced in the USA. All orders are shipped from our headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Could they crack my dog’s teeth?

The coffee wood is more gentle on a dog’s teeth than antler, bone, or nylon, but harder than most native sticks you’d find outside. The wood is porous so it also softens further as they chew. Dogs tend to gnaw them with their back teeth and it is uncommon to have fracturing unless they were to bang their teeth on the chew, or they had pre-existing dental conditions. Always take into consideration your dog’s oral health and act accordingly.

Do these make a mess?

These chews are meant to be destroyed. As gnawing occurs the chew will breakdown, small pulp-like fibers may come off as well. Customers have seen great success with a "Mumbies specific blanket/rug" where their pups can gnaw in peace then it gets shaken out. Or use a vaccum, those things pick up everything. A little mess is okay for a happy pup. :-)

How do I properly care for the chew?

Keeping Mumbies chews indoors will help maintain their quality and longevity. Outdoor elements such as moisture, direct sunlight, and dirt can deteriorate their condition, reducing the fun for your pup.

PLAYTIME with my pup, Luna!

I can understand the reviews from people who say these are too easily destroyed by their dogs in a short time period. They are made from natural products, not plastic/nylon/latex, so... yeah, they are not indestructable. What they are are good tools to promote play and interaction between you and your dog. I have a 70lb German Shepherd mix who plays in our yard with my neighbor's dog, a guardian dog mix of 10 months at 100lbs already. I'll toss the coconut rope about the yard and they race to it and then play tug. The winner will get to run about the yard and chew on the wood for a minute or so and then we resume the game. If one were to just hand it over to one's dog and then leave it alone, yeah, it would probably eventually get torn to shreds and the wood chunk damaged beyond being a viable toy any further. Poeple need to take inititive and play with with their dogs. I am happy that Luna is no longer ingesting microplastics from traditional tug toys.

What a fun tug-of-war toy! Sunny enjoyed bringing it to us for playtime. While the rope didn't last very long, it was far better than plastic toys for her.
